Biography:

Dr. Johnston received her masters and doctoral degree under the direction of Nobel Laureate Sherwood Rowland at the University of California, Irvine. She has taught chemistry and science at Lewis-Clark State College (LCSC) in Idaho for over 15 years. Her specialty is atmospheric chemistry and her research interests center around air and water quality measurements of local concern. ​

Dr. Johnston started her atmospheric chemistry research group at LCSC in 2016 shortly after being hired as assistant professor of analytical and physical chemistry.

The primary goal of the group is to provide high quality research experiences to undergraduates while studying the potential impact of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and sulfur compounds on the local air quality and human health. In addition, her research includes urban and wildfire studies in the Northwest including projects such as NASA/NOAA's FIREX-AQ.
