LCSC's air group participated in the Fire Influence on Regional to Global Environments and Air Quality (FIREX-AQ) project during the summer of 2019. This project is a NOAA/NASA led mission that studied the impacts of wildfire smoke on air quality, chemistry and human health.

During the study, LCSC had five field sites set up to measure daily to weekly averaged VOC composition and concentrations.  The sites were in Spokane, WA, Boise, McCall and Lewiston, ID, and Missoula, MT.  Collaborators included the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (IDEQ), University of Washington, Washington State University and the University of Montana.

In addition to field sites, LCSC assisted with some mobile laboratory measurements by NASA Langley and Aerodyne.
